Chief Analyst


The Chief Analyst is responsible for providing assistance and supervision to an assigned team as well as to provide support to the Deputy Head to achieve the legislative requirements and the goals and objectives of the Division and CIMA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

  • Reviews, interprets and distributes the collation of industry statistics including notable adverse findings disclosed on service providers that require further investigation;
  • Informs other CIMA Divisions and Management of any suspicious or unusual matters such as past regulatory suspensions or sanctions of the Investment Manager;
  • Oversees the registration process of new Excluded Persons and directors ensuring that all requisite requirements have been submitted, contentious issues resolved, and the process is within the Divisional timelines;
  • Briefs other Divisions and/or Management on any suspicious, concerning and/or unusual information, including but not limited to press releases and whistle blowing provisions;
  • Reviews Overseas Regulatory Authority requests and industry enquiries to ensure compliance with international standards, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) mandates, CIMA’s principal functions and the Division’s competencies;
  • Reviews the due diligence assessments on persons applying to act in the capacity of operators, general partners, senior officers and/or shareholders of licensees to determine fitness and propriety
  • Oversees weekly follow-ups of licences and registrants under termination and identified problem entities, and prepares revocation submissions or reports;
  • Monitors and ensues the timely updates of Chronologies in the Divisional Watchlist and Critical Entities List and determines appropriate recommendations to restore sound operations and compliance;
  • Identifies and conducts investigations on complex and serious regulatory or risk management issues of licensees or registrants, determines recommendations for improvements, and follows up to ensure compliance with recommendations;
  • Manages the on-site inspection process and leads a team of Senior Analyst(s) and Analysts to inspect a licensee’s on-site records;
  • Leads the annual risk analysis of the licensees and prepares the inspection schedule and plans based on such findings. People Management;
  • Manages, delegates, and supervises the work of an assigned team to ensure all activities and functions are carried out in accordance with regulatory requirements or pertinent acts;
  • Ensures Divisional goals and objectives are achieved by clearly planning, directing and communicating performance expectations;
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection process.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution – preference given to degrees in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; and seven (7) years’ experience in the investments and securities industry, with three (3) years of supervisory/management experience;
  • Experience within a regulatory or supervisory body would be an asset;
  • A professional qualification in securities or a professional designation such as a CA, CPA, CFA, CAIA would be an asset;
  • Significant knowledge of auditing and accounting principles and comprehensive analytical skills to analyze the implications of financial statements as they relate to securities companies;
  • Significant knowledge of the Securities Investment Business Act, regulations, relevant rules, guidance, policies and procedures relating to the supervision of securities companies;
  • Specific knowledge of emerging investments and securities supervisory techniques, and up to date knowledge of domestic and international financial and economic events;
  • Advanced analytical, presentation, time management and organizational skills; and
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Salary: CI $92,446 - $114,843 per annum
