Grand Cayman (Friday, 22 February 2019) The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA” or “the Authority”) is proud to host its third annual charity Walk/Run on Sunday, 26 May 2019. Events include a 5K Walk, 5K Run or 10K Run which are scheduled to begin from 6:00 am starting at Elizabethan Square, George Town. Cost is CI$20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.

As per previous years, proceeds from the event will support the literacy and numeracy programmes within local government primary schools and other learning institutions.

Managing Director, Mrs. Cindy Scotland stated, “Although this is only CIMA’s third annual charity Walk/Run, I am overwhelmed by the support we receive each year. The event continues to bring the community together in support of childhood education, which is testament that we each have a common role to play in this regard.”

Last year’s event raised over CI$18,000 whereby donations were used to purchase material for various Math programmes, online and home reading packages, as well as other literacy intervention kits. Beneficiary organisations were: Cayman Islands Behavioural Support Services, George Town Primary School, Savannah Primary School, Bodden Town Primary School, East End Primary School, Edna Moyle Primary School, Prospect Primary School, and Red Bay Primary School.

“As the event continues to grow, we hope that it will bring awareness to the importance of childhood education and providing the resources needed to build a strong foundation for these young students. I am thankful to all participants and volunteers for their continued support, including the CIMA staff for organising such a worthwhile event year after year,” added Mrs. Scotland.

The Authority anticipates that there will be over 500 persons participating in this year’s event.

CIMA also expresses special thanks to Maples Group and Cayman Islands Bankers Association who have already confirmed gold sponsorship for this year’s event.
