CIMA Proudly Hosted Its First Financial Services Student Mixer

Grand Cayman (14 August 2019) On Friday, 2 August 2019, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA” or “the Authority”) hosted its first Financial Services 101 Student Mixer at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. The event attracted over 80 student participants. As part of the Authority’s commitment to promote the jurisdiction as a leading international financial services centre, the aim of the event was to educate college bound students about the financial services industry, its importance to the local economy and how its contributes to the standard of living in the Cayman Islands.

Through a series of presentations, students learned about the role of CIMA, the Ministry of Financial Services & Home Affairs, and Cayman Finance including effective conversational tools to help promote the jurisdiction’s stringent efforts in tackling money laundering activities and combatting terrorism financing, and therefore dispelling any related myths that they may come across. Presenters were Hon. Tara Rivers, Minister of Financial Services & Home Affairs, Mr. Rayford Britton, Deputy Head of the Policy and Development Division at CIMA, and Mr. Jude Scott, CEO of Cayman Finance. During the mixer hour, students were able to meet representatives from CIMA along with other key players within the industry.

CIMA’s Managing Director, Mrs. Cindy Scotland who opened the event and outlined the purpose and goals, expressed that, “The Authority is always looking for new avenues to educate the public on the financial services industry. This student mixer allowed us to reach college level students to arm them with important information on the industry while providing an opportunity for them to make real connections with potential employers. We are also grateful to all event sponsors and participating organisations that came on board to partner with us on this initiative and helped to make it a success.”

Event sponsors were: Cayman Islands Funds Administrators Association, Maples, Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, Kirk Freeport, Cayman Finance, and Cayman Islands Insurance Association.

Throughout the event, students were also given a chance to win several prizes, which included: Camana Bay gift cards, restaurant gift cards, CI$1000 cash prize, jewelry, a Kippling luggage set, two-night stay at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, and a Cayman Airways voucher and many more.
