Circulating Coin Set Booklet (Currency Board)

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority is pleased to offer the 1996 Circulating Coin Collection, a limited-edition numismatic set issued by the former Cayman Islands Currency Board. This collector's item features the official circulating coins of the Cayman Islands from 1996, housed in an informative and visually engaging booklet.

Each coin in the collection highlights a distinct aspect of the Cayman Islands' natural heritage and maritime culture:

• One Cent – Depicts a Cayman Thrush
• Five Cents – Features a Crayfish
• Ten Cents – Showcases the Hawksbill Turtle
• Twenty-Five Cents – Displays a traditional Two-Masted Schooner

The accompanying booklet offers historical context, including the story of the islands’ discovery by Christopher Columbus, geographical insights, and cultural highlights such as native wildlife, marine environments, and significant landmarks. It also commemorates notable local legends, including the tale of The Wreck of the Ten Sails—a pivotal event in Caymanian folklore.

This collection serves not only as a piece of numismatic history but also as a celebration of the Cayman Islands’ identity and heritage.

Collectors and members of the public may purchase the 1996 Circulating Coin Collection from CIMA’s Currency Division at the Government Administration Building. Due to limited availability, quantity restrictions will apply.
