Fraudulent Google Meet Calls Impersonating CIMA

General Public Notices
Date: Thu, 08 October 2026

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA”) is aware of a voice phishing (vishing) campaign involving fraudulent Google Meet calls in which unknown individuals are impersonating CIMA.

These calls are fraudulent and did not originate from CIMA. The Authority will never use unsolicited calls or messaging applications to request personal, account or other sensitive information.

How the scam may work

  • You receive an unexpected WhatsApp or Google Meet call, often from an overseas number.
  • The caller claims to represent CIMA and may ask you to join a virtual meeting or provide information for verification or confirmation purposes.
  • You may be asked to disclose personal, account or other sensitive information.
  • If the scammers gain access to your account, they may use it to contact persons in your network while impersonating you.
  • They may then make urgent requests for money transfers, including transfers to overseas accounts.

If you receive a suspicious call or message purporting to be from CIMA, do not engage. Always verify the authenticity of calls, messages and other electronic communications, particularly when they are unsolicited, even if they appear to come from a legitimate organisation. Never share your verification codes, passwords, account details or other sensitive information with anyone.

Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious activity or CIMA impersonation attempts to abuse@cima.ky. You can also contact the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) or Cayman Crime Stoppers.

The Authority encourages the public to remain cautious and verify unexpected communications claiming to be from CIMA through its official channels before taking any action.
