Deputy Head - Securities Supervision Division


Geron Burnett serves as the Deputy Head of the Securities Supervision Division at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), effective June 1 2026. In this role, he supports the oversight of the Authority’s regulatory framework for securities and the effective supervision and development of the securities market in the Cayman Islands.

Mr. Burnett brings more than 20 years of financial services experience to his role, with a professional background spanning securities market regulation and compliance, trading, clearing and settlement operations, investor education, and securities market and business development. Prior to joining CIMA, he served as Senior Manager of the Operations Division at the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE), where he managed the day-to-day operations of the ECSE and its subsidiary, the Eastern Caribbean Central Securities Depository Limited. In this capacity, he oversaw trading, clearing and settlement activities across the Group, including the auction and secondary-market trading of securities. He was also responsible for monitoring broker-dealer operations and issuer disclosures to support compliance with applicable legislation, rules and guidelines.

Prior to his tenure at the ECSE, Mr. Burnett served as Assistant Operations Manager at the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange (TTSE) and its subsidiary, the Trinidad and Tobago Central Depository. In this role, he oversaw daily trading, clearing and settlement operations and contributed to the formulation and implementation of strategic and business development initiatives.

Mr. Burnett’s qualifications reflect his extensive experience and continued professional development within the financial services sector. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies and an International MBA with a specialisation in Finance from the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business. He has also pursued postgraduate studies in leadership and strategic management at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management and Oxford Saïd Business School, as well as studies in international finance, operations management, business analytics and data science.
