Her Majesty The Queen Mother's 90th Birthday
For the Cayman Islands commemorative tribute to this well loved Lady, a truly exquisite design has been chosen to celebrate the occasion.
It features the Queen Mother's cypher with the Royal Crown prominently positioned above the cypher and a floral theme on each side, depicting the Yellow Oncidium (Oncidium Calochilum), an orchid indigenous to the Cayman Islands.
This lovely design is featured on the reverse of both the $250 coin which is struck in 22 Karat gold and the $5 silver coin which is struck in lustrous sterling silver. The common obverse bears the regal portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by sculptor Raphael Maklouf.
