Acting Head - Banking Supervision Division

Shakira Cox joined the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) on 24 July 2017 as Deputy Head of the Banking Supervision Division. Effective 1 October 2026, she has been appointed Acting Head of the Banking Supervision Division, where she will oversee the division's operations and management, supporting the effective supervision of the banking sector through both on-site and off-site supervisory activities.

Ms. Cox began her career with Ernst & Young (EY) in Barbados in 2007. She subsequently joined EY's Cayman Islands office in 2011 and its Bahamas office in 2015. During her tenure with EY, she primarily served assurance clients ranging from large multinational retail banks to private banks, trust companies, pension plans and hedge funds.

She also gained extensive experience executing and managing financial and regulatory audits of entities supervised by regional regulatory bodies, including The Central Bank of The Bahamas, The Turks & Caicos Financial Services Commission, and The Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten, as well as entities overseen by international regulators, including the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA).

Ms. Cox holds a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Accounting, which she obtained from the University of the West Indies in Barbados in 2007. In 2015, she became a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Accountants.
