Head, Financial Stability & Statistics Division
Dr. Petr Jakubik serves as the Head of the Financial Stability & Statistics Division at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), effective 3 September 2025. In this role, he is responsible for advancing the Authoritys research and analysis on financial stability matters, as well as overseeing the compilation and dissemination of official statistics.
Dr. Jakubik brings more than 25 years of international experience in the financial sector, with particular expertise in financial stability, macroprudential supervision, and statistical development. Prior to joining CIMA, he held senior roles with several leading international institutions, including serving as Research Fellow at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), Financial Stability Advisor at the International Monetary Funds Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC), and Head of the Financial Stability Team at the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). In these roles, he led stress testing exercises, financial stability assessments, and research initiatives, while also providing technical support to regional jurisdictions in areas such as climate risk, supervisory communication, and data management.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Jakubik worked in advisory capacities at the European Central Bank and the BIS, and provided financial stability expertise to the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and the Central Bank of Malta. He also served as Chief Economist at the Czech National Bank, Visiting Researcher at the Bank of Finland, and began his career in the private banking sector as a credit risk analyst.
Dr. Jakubik has received international recognition for his contributions to financial stability research, including the Financial Stability Institute Award (2008) and the Irving Fisher Committee Award (2010), both from the BIS. From 2012 to 2013, he also served as President of the Czech Economic Society.
Dr. Jakubik holds two doctoral degrees—a Ph.D. in Finance and a Ph.D. in Economics—as well as three masters degrees in Economics, Statistics & Insurance Mathematics, and Mathematics & Computer Sciences. He is habilitated as an Associate Professor in Economic Theories at Charles University and has taught finance and economics since 2007. He has also published extensively on financial stability, with a focus on insurance and climate risk
