Reinsurance Specialist


Dane Doctor was appointed as Reinsurance Specialist of the Insurance Supervision Division at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA”) effective 1 October 2025. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Insurance Supervision Division’s Chief Analyst since January 2020 where he was responsible for the supervision of licensees that conduct highly complex reinsurance transactions, reviewed and provide recommendations on proposed Internal Capital Models (“ICM”) for licensees conducting long term insurance business, provided advice on matters requiring actuarial expertise and undertook several special projects.

 
Mr. Doctor has significant experience spanning over 25 years in the insurance and financial sectors and academia. Before joining CIMA, Mr. Doctor gained diverse experience across the Caribbean. In Jamaica, he started his career as an Actuarial Analyst for a life insurance company and then as an Economist in the External Sector Statistical Unit at the Bank of Jamaica. Mr. Doctor was also the first credential actuary to be appointed as a Lecturer in Actuarial Science in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus in Trinidad and Tobago where he developed and implemented the Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science. He also worked as an Independent Actuarial Contractor at KR Services in Port of Spain, Trinidad.


He has undertaken external professional development programs offered by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Society of Actuaries, Actuarial Society of South Africa and the Caribbean Actuarial Association. Mr. Doctor has represented CIMA at local and international reinsurance industry events. He was also a volunteer consultant on the ASTIN working party of the International Association of Actuaries (“IAA”) that investigated the implications of IFRS17 on non-life insurers.

  
Mr. Doctor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science with honours and a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies, Mona. He is a Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) with the Global Association of Risk Professionals. Mr. Doctor is also an Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA), a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and the Caribbean Actuarial Association.
