For the second time in the history of the Cayman Islands the people of the Island were graced by the presence of the reigning monarch of Great Britain, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
In honour of this momentous and joyous occasion the Cayman Islands Currency Board issued Gold and Silver Proof coins struck to the highest standards by the British Royal Mint.
The reverse of the coins, designed by Royal Mint engraver Robert Elderton, features a conjoined profile portrait of Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, with the representation of the Royal Yacht Britannia below. The inscription CAYMAN ISLANDS ROYAL VISIT FEBRUARY 1994 interposed by a single rose surrounds the design. Bordering the rim, circled by a looped lanyard, are the names of seven countries visited on the tour.
The obverse of the coins bears the portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Robert Maklouf.
