Date: Tue, 01 June 2021

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (1 June 2021) Following a successful in-house competition, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA” or “the Authority”) is proud to announce the launch of its first-ever island-wide children art competition themed “A Reflection: Lessons from COVID”.

Commenting on the chosen theme, Acting Managing Director Mr. Patrick Bodden said, “While the Cayman Islands has done exceptionally well in containing the spread of COVID-19, compared to other countries, there is no doubt that the pandemic has affected the lives of many children worldwide, and in some cases, negatively impacted their academic studies, social skills and mental health.”

Having recently marked the one-year anniversary of the pandemic, Mr. Bodden added, “Not only is this competition timely, it also allows us the opportunity to offer children an artistic platform to reflect on the lessons learned from COVID-19 and share their stories of hardship, courage and resilience during the past year.”

Winners will be selected from three age group categories (ages 3 to 5, 6 to 12 and 13 to 18) and submissions will be judged based on visual impact, appropriate interpretation of the theme, demonstration of skill and effort, and creativity. Prizes to include $50, $75 and $100 gift cards.

Artwork submissions should be sent to ChildrenArt@cima.ky by 16 June 2021 and must include child’s name, age and school. The winning entries will also be featured on our Facebook and LinkedIn social media pages.
